An iconic garden and a fresh take on the Provençal way of life

Just a stone’s throw from the Cours Mirabeau, in the heart of Aix-en-Provence, Le Pigonnet has the charm of a typical Provençal village, offering moments of inspiration, culinary delights and relaxation. An 18th-century country house, originally designed as a ‘Folie’ – from the Latin folia (leaf), referring to a country residence surrounded by wooded gardens – Le Pigonnet is distinguished by its French gardens and fountains, which have made its reputation. Today it celebrates its centenary in the spirit of rebirth.

This new venue pays tribute to all those who have breathed life into this century-old establishment, by writing, composing music, painting or celebrating birthdays, engagements and other significant moments in their lives. In the shade of the umbrella pines, Barbara, César, Clint Eastwood, Juliette Gréco and Serge Gainsbourg took a break from the daily grind. Legend has it that Cézanne even set up his easel here, facing one of his favourite subjects, the Sainte-Victoire mountain.
